Minnesota Twins select Cole Sands in MLB Draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Minnesota Twins have selected Florida State right handed pitcher Cole Sands in the fifth round of the 2018 MLB first-year player Draft.

Sands, who was taken with the 154th overall pick, went 7-3 with a 4.46 ERA in his sophomore year at FSU. He made 13 starts for the Noles this season and struck out 86 batters while issuing just 25 walks, both of which were career bests.

In 49 games and 47 starts with FSU, Sands went 19-14 with a 4.71 ERA.

Sands was previously selected in the 22nd round by the Houston Astros in 2015, but did not sign with the club.
