TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A man was shot and killed by a Florida Highway Patrol Trooper at the popular Busy Bee gas station late Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. at the location in Live Oak, just off I-10 and U.S. Highway 129, stated a news release sent out just after 9 p.m. The Trooper was not injured.

“The trooper has been placed on non-disciplinary administrative leave pursuant to FHP policy,” said Lt. Patrick Riordan.

No other details were provided and FHP did not respond to follow-up questions about what led up to the confrontation, if the man was armed, or if he was wanted by police.

The scene stayed active for hours.

Earlier in the night, the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office provided a short update on the incident on social media. In the post, the sheriff’s office said FHP troopers were involved in a shooting at the business. It was later updated to state that no “bystanders” had been injured.

An employee at the Busy Bee did not provide comments when reached by phone Tuesday night. A corporate representative reached by email also declined to comment. In a post on Facebook, the business wrote, “to dispel any rumors going around, there is no active shooter at the Busy Bee in Live Oak.”
