Tallahassee Urban League hosts election party, free rides to the polls
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - On this busy election Tuesday, one local group made sure people can cast their ballots even if they don’t have a way to get to the polls.
The Tallahassee Urban League offered free rides to and from all polling locations in Tallahassee.
Several people taking advantage of the rides to and from the polls shared why it was so important to them to make their vote.
One person, in particular, stuck out, and that’s 95-year-old Mariah Blake. She’s been voting for 75 years since she was 20.
Blake tells WCTV that her faith has played a large role in every election.
“You need to get out and vote because there’s no use of sitting back when you’re older when you’ve got so much to say, you didn’t say anything when you had the chance. To young people today, I pray that you go out and vote,” said voter Mariah Blake.
The free rides ended at 6 but they were able to help nearly 50 people cast their votes.
The Tallahassee Urban League also held an Election Day voter party from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at their location on Old Bainbridge Rd.
