Fugitives captured by U.S. Marshals in Tallahassee
The men were wanted after allegedly escaping from a jail in southeast Georgia last month.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Two fugitives who were on the lam after escaping from a jail in southeast Georgia have been apprehended in Tallahassee, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
30-year-old John Mincey was taken into custody around 5 p.m. Wednesday on Miccosukee Commons Drive. The scene was not far from the intersection of Miccosukee Road and Capital Circle Northeast. Members of the U.S. Marshals Service were seen in body armor surrounding a maroon sedan that had stopped in the middle of the roadway.
At least two people were inside the vehicle. Several unmarked law enforcement vehicles were parked along the roadway, as well as one patrol car belonging to the Tallahassee Police Department that had its emergency lights activated.
Tallahassee Police are not providing details because US Marshals are leading the investigation.
18-year-old Meahki Carter was located roughly four hours later on Joe Louis Street. He was arrested around 8:30 p.m. with the help of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 unit and helicopter crews.
Both men had been inmates at the Tattnall County Jail, about three-and-a-half-hours outside Tallahassee, when they escaped on Oct. 10, according to our sister station in Savannah, GA, WTOC. Carter was being held at the jail for multiple Counts including Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm during a Crime.
Mincey was being held on charges of Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats and Acts, and Probation Violation. Leon County court records show Mincey was actually arrested in Tallahassee by U.S. Marshals Back in June of 2020 for the crime attached to the Tattnall County charges, which stemmed from the alleged abduction of his teenage neighbor.
