UPDATE: Suspect wanted for Valdosta bus stop shooting turns himself in
VALDOSTA, Fla. (WCTV)- The teen wanted for a shooting at a school bus stop in Valdosta turned himself in Wednesday night.
The suspect is 16 years old, so Valdosta Police are no longer publicizing his name. Investigators initially released a picture of the teen as they tried to track him down, believing he was 17, which is considered an adult in Georgia. Police retracted those details after the suspect was taken into custody and investigators learned he was a year younger.
Valdosta Police say the shooting happened shortly before 7:30 Monday morning at a school bus stop in the 1400 block of Weaver Street.
While officers were on the way to the scene, they learned the 17-year-old victim had gotten onto the bus after being shot.
The bus driver was trying to drive the victim to the hospital when officers stopped the bus on Lakeford Drive and took the victim to the hospital.
VPD says the suspect is being held at a Regional Youth Detention Center.
