Suwannee County Deputies say murdered couple “crossed paths with evil”
Investigators have determined a ‘person of interest’ after two people were found shot inside a vehicle near Live Oak on July 9.
LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB/WCTV) - A little more than a month after a couple was found shot and killed at a rural intersection in Suwannee County, the sheriff’s office announced they had a person of interest in the case.
A husband and his wife were found in a vehicle near the intersection of 40th Path and 167th Road around 6:30 a.m. July 9, said the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office. In a release, the agency provided an update Friday morning.
“As a result of our investigation, we have identified a “person of interest.” The motive so far appears to be fueled by anger, and the victims were specifically targeted. Contrary to rumor and speculation on several online forums, the victims were not drug dealers or users; they were simply two hard-working professionals heading to work who crossed paths with evil.”
The sheriff’s office said they will not identify the person of interest at this time, nor the victims. The family of the deceased did not want their names to be made public, said the release.
The motive for the killing appears to be anger, according to deputies. They say the victims were specifically targeted.
The sheriff’s office is withholding additional information in an effort to maintain the integrity of the case but said several search warrants were executed. Physical evidence is being forensically processed by the FDLE Crime Labs in Tallahassee and Jacksonville. Meanwhile, electronic evidence is still being collected, sorted, and analyzed, the release stated.
Deputies are reportedly working with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents and the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.
The agency said it plans to “prosecute anyone involved in this horrific crime, whether they participated in the planning, execution, or cover-up. We will leave no stone unturned; we will bring you to justice.”
