TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Hey everybody, your friendly neighborhood Sports Director Ryan Kelly here. As I’m typing this we’re just under an hour away from tip between the Florida State Seminoles (13-6, 6-3 ACC) and the Virginia Tech Hokies (10-10, 2-7 ACC). I’ll be putting out live updates from here so feel free to bookmark and refresh often if you’re out and about and want updates.
FINAL: FSU drops its second game at the Tuck this season and its first ever to Virginia Tech at the venue 85-72. Injuries, cold snaps and VT’s hot shooting too much to overcome.
SECOND HALF
3:46 - Couple quick baskets from both sides see it 78-62 Hokies and some fans are heading to the exits to beat the traffic. Gonna take a lot for FSU to pull this one off.
4:32 - Timeout ‘Noles as the Hokies cap a 14-0 run with five straight shots. 76-70 VT who are an absurd 17-24 beyond the arc.
6:30 - Leonard Hamilton calls timeout as back-to-back threes push the Hokie lead to 68-60. If I’m not mistaken tied for the biggest lead since the half started for either team.
7:56 - This one is coming down to the wire. Virginia Tech still leads it 60-56. Polite and McLeon continue to be a force for FSU with 14 and 13 respectively. Meanwhile Pedulla is up to 20 for VT.
11:25 - Back and forth we go with Virginia Tech currently in front 55-54. The fouls are starting to pile up on both teams with five on VT and 4 on FSU so expect these teams to have some high pressure moments at the line soon.
15:08 - The threes aren’t stopping for VT but Florida State still putting up one heck of a fight. 49-48 VT. Something to keep an eye on is the health of Anthony Polite who’s clearly injured his wrist and is in a good bit of pain.
17:33 - Timeout on the floor and the Seminoles have come to play. A quick 11-3 run to start the second half has this game all tied up at 42.
HALFTIME: The Seminoles have work to do after the offense goes cold and Virginia Tech continues to bury triples. 39-31 at the break as the ‘Noles play their first game without Malik Osborne and are also without the services of RayQuan Evans
FIRST HALF
2:39 - Coach Ham calls timeout as the VT three bombs keep falling. 33-27 Tech
3:52 - Tech takes a 28-27 into the final media break of the half courtesy a three ball from Hunter Cattoor who has six for the Hokies.
7:02 - Still a tight one at the Tuck that sees FSU ahead 29-28. The assault from beyond the arc continues with both teams shooting 50% from downtown. FSU shooting better overall though at 60% from the floor to the Hokies’ 47%.
10:38 - The good news? The FSU offense has come to life early. Bad news? So has the Hokies. The ‘Noles lead it 19-18 at the under 12 TO with both teams shooting above 40% beyond the arc. Anthony Polite leads all Seminoles with seven points.
15:48 - We’ve hit the first media TO of the game with VT off to an early 7-5 lead. A three point play from Naheem McLeod down low and a friendly roll for Matt Cleveland account for FSU’s offense so far.
