TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Friday, Karen Morris celebrated her 83rd birthday with her friends, neighbors and caretakers.

Morris’ caretaker of 20 years, Linda Clemons, is moving away and wanted to have one last celebration before she left, while also raising money for a new electric bed chair so Morris can get around on her own.

Morris has a severe case of scoliosis and needs assistance with everyday tasks.

Clemons said she wanted to make the day as special as possible.

“I want her to remember the love from me and her staff and some of her neighbors that worked hard to make this event be,” Clemons explained. “And I want her to remember that I love her and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for her.”

“But she’s going away soon… and that’s going to hurt me,” Morris said.

Morris doesn’t have any family left in the area, so Clemons and her kids became her family and a huge bond was formed.

“She’s very special like my mom said earlier every holiday we make sure we come. Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, we are here and make sure she feels special,” said Kendrick Evans of Kendrick Evans Make-A-Wish Foundation. “Her chair was torn up and she was denied by the Medicaid company that was supposed to really did all the hard work, but we are trying someway else.”

Friday’s party marked their last celebration together.

“It was the most beautiful party I’ve ever seen,” said Morris.

It was a day full of love that no one will ever forget.

The group is also fundraising to send Morris on a weekend trip to either Busch Gardens or Wild Adventures so she can see some of her favorite animals.
