Tallahassee Fire Department Search and Rescue Team deploying to Surfside

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Tallahassee Fire Department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team is being deployed to Surfside to assist Miami-Dade on the scene of the condo collapse, the city announced in a press release Sunday afternoon.

Activated by the State of Florida, a team of 27 will begin a seven-day deployment, leaving Fire Station #4 on West Pensacola Street Sunday afternoon.

Also known as Florida Task Force 7, USAR Team members are trained in rescue operations, including structural collapse, confined space rescue, vertical rescue, trench rescue and heavy vehicle extrication, according to the City.

Florida Task Force 7, appointed by the State of Florida Regional Domestic Security Task Force as one of eight Florida USAR Teams, primarily serves the 13-county Big Bend region, but can be deployed across the state to aid in situations such as this one.

WCTV was on scene as crews left for Surfside just after 3 p.m..
