Wanderlust Theatre on Location creates audio musical to teach Frenchtown history
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Wanderlust Theatre on Location is hoping to use the power of song to walk in others’ shoes with its new Frenchtown project.
Local artists are creating songs and poems inspired by each of the markers along the Frenchtown Heritage Trail.
Wanderlust Theatre on Location is an audio musical where each piece will be free to download.
Thee idea is that as you walk along the trail to each one of these markers, you can start to feel what Frenchtown was like through history.
The Frenchtown Heritage Trail.begins with a welcoming voice, but soon, each marker will share words of nearly 200 years of history.
“When I walked the trail for the first time, my desire and goal was for people to imagine with me, Frenchtown. Because you can’t see it now,” said singer/songwriter Royce Lovett, who is is crafting pieces dedicated and inspired by each of the 13 landmarks on the Heritage Trail and the voices who paved its history.
“Frenchtown was the first black town in Florida. and like all the amazing things that came,” said Lovett.
Lovett spent months interviewing life long residents, researching its history and sharing it with the next generation. Many of those voices are included in the songs.
“It gives people an opportunity to literally put themselves in the shoes and walk the walk on this Heritage Trail,” said Artistic Director of Wanderlust on Location Laura Hope-London. “And learn about this history that’s right here in our own town.”
Wanderlust on location hopes as the songs are played along the trail.. It brings a new spotlight to Frenchtown’s rich history
Wanderlust is still in need of fundraising of about $15,000 to finish the project, and they hope to have it ready to launch this fall, even having a live performance.
