GREENVILLE, Fla. (WCTV) - The Florida Highway Patrol responded to a deadly crash on I-10 near the Jefferson-Madison county line, according to the agency’s online traffic map.

Troopers were dispatched to mile marker 248 on I-10 West around 7:50 a.m. Thursday. According to an FHP press release, the crash happened when an 18-wheel tractor-trailer veered to the right onto the north shoulder. Once the 18-wheeler was on the wood line, the tractor detached from the trailer and overturned, FHP says.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and a passenger was flown to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and is in critical condition.

All lanes are now back open after they were closed and caused a backup for about an hour and a half.

Based on traffic cameras in the area, the backup extended about three miles.
