TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - The leader of a dogfighting ring and drug trafficking organization in Gadsden County was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on Friday, June 4, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.

The press release says 32-year-old Jermaine Hadley’s group was connected with a violent gang in the Gadsden County area and was responsible for distributing more than 50 kilograms of methamphetamine, 15 kilograms of cocaine and MDMA, as well as organizing a large-scale dogfighting ring across the north-central Florida Panhandle between 2018 and 2019.

A total of 21 suspects have been arrested in connection to this investigation. Several have been sentenced or are awaiting sentencing.

The attorney’s office says Hadley’s drug supply chain included multiple sources in Georgia, Louisiana and Texas. Members of the Florida “424″ criminal street gang then distributed the drugs in Gadsden County. More than 100 fighting dogs were rescued during this investigation, the press release says.

“As a result of the incredible work of our law enforcement partners, this criminal has been held to account for the violence, armed drug trafficking, and horrific acts of animal cruelty he orchestrated,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Coody. “The abuse of animals for profit is both inhumane and illegal and will be vigorously prosecuted by this office.”
